Flynn hits out at planners for planning permisson refusal

Fine Gael councillor Peter Flynn this week hit out at the decision of planners from Mayo County Council to refuse planning permission for a house in the Rooskey area of Westport. Flynn told the meeting the reason that the application was refused by the planners was, “the house was not in line with the characteristic of houses in the area” according to the planners.

The issue was raised at the September meeting of the Westport Electoral Area Committee. Cllr Flynn said: “There is no shape or style to the houses in Rooskey, they are all different shapes and styles. This decision was made by a planner at their own discretion, you can’t have every house the exact same in a area.”

Ryanair celebrates four millionth passenger at Ireland West Airport

Ireland West Airport Knock and Ryanair welcomed its four millionth passenger on flights to/from Ireland West Airport Knock last Monday. Transport Minister Leo Varadkar and Ireland West Knock managing director Joe Gilmore presented the four millionth passenger, Sister Maude Murphy from Knock, County Mayo, with a free holiday for two to Lanzarote including flights, transfers, and accommodation. To mark the occasion Ryanair also donated €4,000 to a charity of choice of Sister Murphy’s.

Councillors refuse to extinguish right of way

Classic car rally comes to Castlebar for Ireland’s first children’s hospice

From September 16 to 19, 60 people will take to 40 classic cars and travel 1,100 kilometres around the four provinces of Ireland in aid of Ireland’s first children’s hospice, The Children’s Sunshine Home/LauraLynn House, including a visit to Castlebar on Sunday September 18 from 12.30pm to 2.30pm where people can see the classic cars and have the opportunity to donate to the fund. The rally will also travel to Clonmel, Galway, Ballyshannon, and Monaghan.
