Man who drove friend’s car banned from driving for two years

An 18-year-old Ballina man who drove a friend’s car and was involved in a traffic accident was disqualified from driving for two years in Ballina District Court this week.

Inspector Joe Doherty, outlining the facts of the case, after Cory Harris, 11 Lough Conn Heights, Bonniconlon, had pleaded guilty, told the court that Harris was driving a car owned by a friend when he was involved in a traffic accident at Bothernasup, Ballina. Harris failed to remain at the scene. Following an investigation by the Gardaí, the car was located and Harris was arrested. The accident had caused €528 worth of damage to the car.

For driving without insurance Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined Harris €300 and disqualified him from driving for two years, for failing to report an accident she convicted and fined him €200 and disqualified him from driving for two years concurrent.
