Minister Ring welcomes Smarter Travel funding for Castlebar

Michael Ring, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, has welcomed the announcement by his colleague Minister of State Alan Kelly that approval has been given for €116,000 in funding. This money will allow for the provision of some four kilometres of cycle lanes, 376 metres of footpaths, and 12 bike parking spaces in Castlebar.

The Mayo branch of the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers’ Association (ICSA) has voiced its anger at the Department of Agriculture on its failure to commence payments on the Agri Environment Options Scheme (AEOS). But there was confirmation this week that the payments for 2010 will be released in two weeks time, later than the July and August deadlines initially outlined.

The people of Mayo are doing great work across the county by helping out in their local communities. Earlier this year, the Dulux Let’s Colour Project called upon Irish communities to take up their paintbrushes to give the ‘mood of the nation’ a boost by helping transform dull grey spaces into colourful happy places. The Let’s Colour team at Dulux Cork received a superb response from Mayo people — all community players who are keen to improve their local community with colour.
