To raise funds and increase the awareness of the supportive charity Muscular Dystrophy Ireland is teaming up with Blaze Enterprises for another very successful Fire Walk Challenge, which will take place on September 16 at 6.30pm in Croke Park.

Flares or emergency beacon did not help fishermen who spent twelve hours adrift on life raft

Two fishermen from Mayo who spent 12 hours at sea off the north Mayo coast after their boat capsized were not assisted after they released flares; nor did the emergency position indicating radio beacon (EPIRB) assist them, a report by the Marine Casualty Investigation Board has found.

Judge praises garda who was surrounded by mob

A District Court judge this week praised the work of a Westport based garda who was surrounded by a mob who tried to stop him carrying out an arrest in the town. Garda Martin Kelly was attempting to carry out an arrest on Darren Heraty, Three Bridges, Islandeady, Castlebar, for a public order offence at Mill Street in Westport when a group of Heraty’s friends tried to stop Garda Kelly making the arrest. Garda Kelly was forced to call for back up from other officers who arrived at the scene to help their colleague.

Leaving Certificate students in Mayo were congratulated by Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony after they received their results on Wednesday. “While the exam is important it must be remembered that it’s just one step along the way in life,” Deputy O’Mahony said. “There is something for everyone after school and we should not lose sight of that.”
