Westport Arts Festival announces this year’s annual film event

This year the Westport Arts Festival offers a diverse line up of acts and events from Ireland and further afield. One of these is the Westport Arts Film Event 2013, which will be showcasing award-winning independent film shorts on Sunday September 29 from 2pm to 10pm at Westport’s Cineplex on James Street.

Traffic in Westport came to a standstill during rush hour on Wednesday morning as gardaí sealed off the main thoroughfare of the town—Bridge Street, as they dealt with a collision which occurred that morning when a car, which was struck by a stolen jeep, smashed into the shopfront of McGreevy’s which is located at the junction of the Mall and Bridge Street.

A woman was airlifted off Croagh Patrick on Monday evening having suffered lower leg injuries and hypothermia near the summit.
Mayo Mountain Rescue was called to the incident which occurred approximately 20 to 30 metres from the summit. A full team call-out was deployed and Rescue 115 - the Irish Coast Guard rescue helicopter service from Shannon, was called to assist.
