Petworld’s Furry 5K, an annual sponsored dog walk now in its third year, took place on August 18 and was a roaring success, raising more than €9,000 for seven animal welfare charities across Ireland.

Higgins quizzes European commission more than any other Irish MEP since 2009 elections

Jim Higgins MEP for Ireland North West has been most active in terms of questioning the European Commission in the first four years of the current five year European Parliament term. New figures show that MEP Jim Higgins asked 513 questions to the European Commission, which is made up of 27 commissioners, in the period July 2009 to July 2013. MEPs are entitled to ask written questions of the commission in order to hold the commission to account. MEP Higgins has asked a wide range of questions, on transport, fisheries, and market competition matters in particular.

Minister Ring welcomes funding for roads on Inishbiggle and Clare Island

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring has today been informed by Minister of State for the Gaeltacht Dinny McGinley that he has approved funding for roads on Clare Island and on Inishbiggle. In relation to Inishbiggle, funding is being provided for 75 per cent of the overall cost of the roads with €45,000 being allocated. In relation to Clare Island, again 75 per cent is being approved for the overall cost of the work and they will be receiving €60,750.

Jim Higgins MEP is delighted that the 116 000 line is finally in place in Ireland thanks to EU funding. The missing child hotline provides advice and support, taking calls from the general public, the family of the missing child, or the child him/herself. The service also supports the gardaí in their investigations.

Flybe celebrates 100,000 passengers at IWAK

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, celebrated its first major passenger landmark at Ireland West Airport Knock with its 100,000th passenger, Rachel Dale, from Manchester, travelling through the airport on Friday August 23 on a fight to Manchester. To mark the occasion Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring, presented Ms Dale with two free return flights to Manchester and tickets to a Manchester United match courtesy of the airport and Flybe.
