The research also shows that businesses in Mayo are seventh fastest to pay their bills, with an average 20.25 days beyond terms.

Councillor Barrett wants dog warden appointed

Castlebar councillor Harry Barrett has written to the county manager, Peter Hynes, asking him to appoint a replacement dog warden for the county. Cllr Barrett made his learnt that the county has no dog warden services at present as the current dog warden appointed is on extended leave.

Corrigan Brothers to release Mayo song

The Corrigan Brothers , the Limerick Bank whose international hit “There’s No One as Irish as Barack Obama” saw them perform for President Obama and top the charts all over the world as well as reaching almost ten million YouTube hits, will release a Mayo song later this week.

Drummer Donncha Corrigan said: “Ten minutes before the final whistle we received a call from a Mayo friend who asked us if we would do a song to celebrate the Mayo team, so we got together and wrote the song and will record it over the coming days. It was a labour of love celebrating a team who have produced one of the finest performances ever seen in Croke Park.”

Recrowning of Marian Statue at Westport Quay

In 1954 a special Westport committee, made up mainly of people from the Quay, was set up to erect a shrine at Upper Quay to mark the papal-designated Marian Year. Since then the shrine has occupied a special place in the hearts of local people, many of whom worked on a voluntary basis to maintain it. But time took its toll on the shrine and many of the volunteers, and it became obvious in recent years that some remedial work was required.
