October was the busiest month for Ireland West Airport Knock

Ireland West Airport Knock experienced the busiest month of October in their 28 year history with more than 62,000 passengers passing through the airport last month.

Some 46,000 passengers travelled on flights to and from the UK in October, a six per cent increase on the same period in 2012 and the seventh consecutive month of passenger growth from the UK market.

Mulherin welcomes legislation to enable local authority tenants to purchase their homes

Fine Gael TD for Mayo Michelle Mulherin has today welcomed confirmation from the Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government, Jan O'Sullivan, that the Government is preparing legislation to replace the Tenant Purchase Scheme which expired at the end of 2012. It was confirmed to Deputy Mulherin in response to a parliamentary question which she tabled, that the General Scheme of a Housing Bill will enable local authority tenants to purchase their homes. An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, subsequently confirmed to Deputy Mulherin in Dáil Eireann this week that the legislation may come to Cabinet before the end of this year.

Pedestrian crossing urgently needed on ring road — Ruane

Sinn Féin councillor Thérèse Ruane has put out an urgent appeal to the National Roads Authority to put in place a pedestrian crossing on the ring road in Castlebar at the junction of John Moore Road and the ring road. She raised the issue at the recent Castlebar Town Council meeting and a letter will now be written to the NRA requesting this.

Jackie Clarke Collection wins design award

The Jackie Clarke Collection has won Institute of Designers in Ireland – Design Award 2013 – for Exhibition Design. The award ceremony was held in Vicars Street, in Dublin last week. It was a great night for the designers Martello Media and the Mayo County Council. The winning of this award is very prestigious, as some 220 separate submissions were shortlisted to the final of 109 for all types of design in Ireland during the past year from products to app design. An exhibition of the short listed projects is currently on display in the National College of Art and Design in Dublin.
