Funding of €30,000 for Mayo organisations

Five organisations in Mayo are to receive more than €30,000 funding under the Senior Alert Scheme. The funding has been welcomed by Taoiseach Enda Kenny. The five recipients are Ballina Family Resource (€23,164); Knock Community Alert (€4,544); Killasser Community Alert (€2,812); SVdP St Colman’s Conference, Claremorris (€307); and Tacu Family Resource Centre (€50).

IFA says owners must control their dogs

O’Mahony welcomes plans to reform disabled parking permit scheme

Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony has welcomed plans to overhaul the Disabled Parking Permit Scheme, to eliminate the fraudulent use of parking spaces. The reformed permit scheme, announced by the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar, will come into effect on June 1 of this year.

Mayo VEC row finally coming to a conclusion

The ongoing row between Fine Gael and the other elected members of Mayo County Council in relation to the filling of vacancies on Mayo VEC may finally be coming to a conclusion. The issue raised its head once again at the April meeting of the local authority on Monday, when Sinn Féin councillor Gerry Murray said he had “no option but to withdraw from the meeting” after he was not allowed to read the text of the legislation in relation to the appointment of people to the VEC following the resignation of a member.

Mayo Library launches new audio download service

Mayo County Library is the first in Connacht and one of the first in the country to launch its new audio download service that allows members to download audio books directly to their PC, mobile phone, MP3 player or other portable device. From today the library provides access to over 600 bestselling unabridged audiobooks for every library member. The service is available in any library or indeed from a PC anywhere.
