Mayo patients get faster hospital treatment on National Treatment Purchase Fund

More than 5,600 of Mayo’s longest waiting public patients have now benefited from faster treatment through the work of the National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF). According to the latest figures released by the fund, to end of March, a total of 169,479 public patients throughout the country have now had their treatment arranged. There has also been significant progress in reducing the waiting times of public patients awaiting surgery in Mayo and elsewhere throughout the country.

An urgent review of the conditions covered under the Long Term Illness scheme is being called for by Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony. The scheme, which is administered by the Health Service Executive, is designed to ensure that people who suffer from a number of medical conditions can avail of their medication under this scheme.

Mayo Intercultural Action has expressed its sympathy with the people of Poland on the death of President Lech Kaczynski, his wife Maria, senior government figures, and other passengers killed in the recent tragic plane crash which claimed the lives of all the 97 people on board. Poland’s military commanders, the governor of the Central Bank, the Ombudsman, politicians, (including the rival candidate for the presidential post in elections planned for next year) were all on board the plane.

Following notification of a housing capital allocation to be received by Mayo County Council, the acting town manager of Westport Town Council Martin Keating said that the allocation will allow the Kilmeena housing scheme in the Westport area to be completed as well as progressing with rural housing applications in 2010.
