Gardaí in Westport are investigating a single vehicle collision at Cartoon, Newport, Co Mayo which happened shortly before 1.30am on Saturday morning.
According to Gardai, upon “arrival at the scene emergency services encountered a car off the road and engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished and a body was discovered in the car. It is not known at this stage if the body is that of a man or woman.”The area was sealed off and Garda forensic collision investigators carried out an examination of the area. The road remained closed until late on Saturday afternoon. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was travelling in the area of who may have any information about the incident to contact then at Westport Garda Station on (098 ) 50230.
