Ninety seven tonnes of electrical waste collected in Mayo

WEEE Ireland held a series of WEEE Wagon collections throughout Mayo during March and April, supported by Mayo County Council. These smaller collection days allowed people from towns and villages across the county to get rid of any household electrical equipment and batteries in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

The results are in, and more than 97 tonnes of electrical waste material has been collected at these events, a massive achievement for the county. Leo Donovan, CEO of WEEE Ireland, said: “We have been blown away by the dedication and environmental leadership shown by Mayo during this five week campaign. Mayo is a wonderful example for other counties across Ireland on the importance of battery and electrical waste recycling, and we would like to thank everyone involved in Mayo County Council and the hundreds of people who turned up at each event.”

The WEEE Wagon events took place in the following locations in Mayo: Bangor Erris, Eachleim, Achill, Currane, Ballycastle, Killala, Bonniconlon, Foxford, Balla, Kiltimagh, Ballyheane, Ballyvary, Belcarra, Kilkelly, Knock, Ballindine, Irish Town, Cong, and Kilmaine.
