Pride at stake as Connacht season closes

Connacht complete their 2013/4 season with a difficult visit to Liberty Stadium on Saturday (6.30pm) where they face an Ospreys outfit smarting from its failure to qualify for the semi-finals.
Although only pride is at stake for both sides, Connacht coach Pat Lam is preparing his injury-hit side for an Ospreys’ onslaught.

Anyone familiar with the Disney movie The Mighty Ducks will know the classic underdog story, a mixed group of young kids go from zero to hero in a single season, turning their fortunes around by winning their local league. Here in Galway the NUI Galway Youth Academy Rugby club has only been in existence for three years. Last year’s u-13 group went through the league season without a single competitive win. They had some success at the very end of the year, winning an invitational plate at Corinthians RFC. This year the same group has managed to go through their second league season (at u-14) unbeaten, completing the season by defeating a very tough Tuam side 34-13 to win the Connacht B-league final. Three tries by Matthew Collins, two by Brian O’Sullivan, and an outstanding dot down from a cross field kick by David Burke, secured the win against Tuam’s two tries and one penalty.

Corinthians pulled off two cup finals at the weekend, winning the u-19 and the Ard na Cregg trophies.
Corinthians faced the Connemara All Blacks in the u-19 final at the Galway Sportsground and were quick out of the blocks when prop Craig Hansberry grabbed the opening try. Captain Colin Keane added the extras before scoring an individual effort midway through the half to help his side into a 14 - 0 lead.

Galwegians u-12s will make their annual pilgrimage to London with a squad of 33 players and 24 adults to take part in the world-renowned London-Irish “Clearing-Out” Six Nations Mini Rugby Festival.
This is the 33rd time London Irish has hosted this event and it will by attended by 29 clubs from six countries, including England, Scotland, Wales, France and Germany. Ireland will be represented by Ballymena, Clontarf, Coleraine, De La Salle Palmerstown, Dolphin, Garryowen and Galwegians.
