The Galway Women’s FA and the team sponsor, The Loughrea Hotel and Spa, have teamed up to announce a Win a Training Session for you Club competition for clubs throughout the city and county. The competition means that members of the team will come to the winning club and do a full training session that includes a skills session and a strength and conditioning session. As well as this great prize there are 20 tickets available to the Republic of Ireland v USA Men’s International Friendly in the Aviva Stadium on the 2nd of June. Galway United manager Shane Keegan hopes the Tribesmen can deliver an improved performance against Cobh Ramblers in tomorrow’s SSE Airtricity League first division encounter at Eamonn Deacy Park (7.45pm).

Almost 2,000 runners completed the 17th edition of the Connemara half, full and ultra-marathon series of races held on Sunday in the scenic surrounds of Maam Cross, Lough Inagh and Leenane.
First over the line in the half marathon over 13.1 miles was Arnaud Bessede of Montauban Athletisme in France, in 1 hour 20 minutes. Tara Whyte of Galway City Harriers was the first woman home in a great time of 1 hour 30 minutes, taking her maiden victory on the roads with a superb performance.

Seventeen-year-old Aoife Thompson was the hero on Sunday when her late goal helped propel Galway Women’s FC to their first win of the season, overcoming Kilkenny 2-1.
It was a busy week for Thompson, who had made her international debut a week previous, when along with four Galway WFC teammates, she represented Ireland in the UEFA European Women’s U19 Elite Round against Turkey.

Castlegar drew their first outing with Tommy Larkins by 1-12 to 0-15 and they needed talisman Ger Farragher to be at his best to earn that point, as he hit 1-8 from placed balls in that outing.
