Radisson Blu Streets of Galway 8K 2016 - race preview
Galway’s biggest road-race takes place this weekend, as the 2016 event sees the 31st running of the iconic Streets of Galway 8K road-race. The Galway City Harriers' organized event, which is sponsored this year by the Radisson Blu Hotel and Spa Galway, takes place on Saturday August 6 at 7pm. This year the race will have 3,000 participants with many top Irish athletes competing including some Irish internationals and top local road runners as well as thousands of fun runners and joggers.

The Galway ladies lost out narrowly last Monday to Donegal in the TG4 All-Ireland ladies' senior football championship in Pearse Park in Longford when they went down by a single point, on a score-line of 3-15 to 4-11.

Galway United manager Tommy Dunne is adamant that a "tricky and tough game away to Longford Town" awaits the Tribesmen in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division at City Calling Stadium on Saturday evening, 7.30pm kick off.
Last Friday’s stirring 4-2 success over Wexford Youths showed the potential of United, who controlled the game despite falling behind early on. Goals from Gary Shanahan, Vinny Faherty (2), and a splendid effort from skipper Ryan Connolly decorated a fine win for Dunne’s charges.

Following their impressive 1-12 to 0-10 win last weekend over Kilkenny, Galway senior camogie squad under the guidance of Ollie Bergin will proceed directly to the Liberty Insurance Senior Camogie championship semi-finals.
Current All-Ireland champions Cork, the other group winners, also qualified directly for the last four, which will be broadcast live on RTÉ One on Saturday, August 13 from Nowlan Park.

Galway's Rugby League club, the Tribesmen, have qualified for their first semi-final in the All Ireland Championship.
The Tribesmen finished in fourth place in the league table and will now meet table toppers Dublin City in the knock-out game on Saturday, while the Athboy Longhorns will host the Athy Sharks.
