Burke elected county board treasurer for 2018

Kinvara's Michael Burke has been elected treasurer of the Galway County Board for 2018.

At the county board convention on Monday night in the Loughrea Hotel, Burke defeated outgoing treasurer John McGann by 132 to 106 votes. Kilconly's Seamus Connolly was proposed and seconded as assistant treasurer.

The home side was completely in command in Crowley Park, and full value for a 13-0 lead at half-time. However a collapse in the third quarter saw the game turned on its head as the Corkmen ran in five tries in 13 minutes.

Galway champions Corofin will face off against Mayo champions Castlebar Mitchels this Sunday in what promises to be an intriguing Connacht senior club final in Tuam Stadium (2pm).

Last year in the Connacht semi-final, Corofin beat Castlebar after extra-time in McHale Park before going on to defeat St Brigid's in the final.
