Former Dublin All-Ireland winning football manager Pat Gilroy will have the Dublin hurling squad in Salthill on Saturday evening to take on Galway in the final round of the Leinster Senior Hurling championship round robin series (7pm).

The game is a dead rubber. Galway have already qualified for the Leinster final on July 1 – their fourth in a row - by virtue of their 1-23 to 0-17 win over Wexford last weekend, and Dublin are safe from relegation to the Joe McDonagh Cup for 2019 having defeated Offaly by 2-24 to 0-13 at Parnell Park.

Both sides are level on 24 points after Kevin Doherty's Drogheda sealed a 2-0 win over Wexford, while Galway produced a 2-1 triumph at Stradbrook. It was an important result for United, with Robbie Williams and Marc Ludden grabbing goals, and while manager Shane Keegan said it was not United’s most effective display, his team still secured the full complement of spoils.

Moore breaks Connacht 800m record

Emma Moore of Presentation Athenry produced one of the highlights of the Connacht Schools Track and Field championships in Athlone IT at the weekend. Moore won the junior 800m in a new record of 2.13.9, breaking Claire Rockall’s record from 2005.
