When Niall Cunningham rattled the back of the net three minutes into injury time in Croke Park on Sunday, one could easily forgive manager Dónal Ó'Fátharta for thinking that in less than a hour he would be sitting in the Croke Park museum auditorium reflecting on a famous victory for Galway in the most dramatic of circumstances. Alas the football gods did not see it that way.
His battling Galway minor footballers went from elation to devastation in a matter of minutes.

Connacht Rugby returned to Russia yesterday evening ahead of a challenge fixture against the Russian national side in Moscow's newly developed VTB Arena on Saturday evening (5pm Irish time).
Connacht coach Andy Friend has taken a 24 man squad for the fixture which is warm-up for the Russians ahead of the World Cup.

As in hurling in 1887, Galway took part in the first All-Ireland senior camogie final in 1932 which was played in Galway Sportsground.
In the only All-Ireland senior camogie final to be played outside Dublin, with the late Stephen Jordan TD of Athenry as referee, Dublin defeated Galway in windy and wet conditions by 3-2 to 0-2. Galway went on to participate in the All Ireland senior final in 1933, '37, '39, '40, '46, '60, '62, and '93 without success.
