The season ended on a high note for County Galway Cricket Club last Sunday when they won the Wallace Cup for the first time in the club's history.

• Bow Waves, the only Galway-based maritime training organisation, has launched its winter training programme. The courses, for people who go to sea for a living or for leisure, range from basic sailing and powerboat courses up to advanced. Over the winter there are a number of evening courses, including navigation, GPS, VHF, first aid, diesel engine, and sea survival. Sailing courses include yachts, keelboats and dinghies, with adults, juniors, schools, and groups are catered for. Bow Waves is also running a commercial passenger boat skippers’ course (Master 200 ton - Power), starting in November; a yachtmaster course, and an introduction to navigation starting in the next few weeks. It is a tremendous achievement and they will take a lot of beating in the final. With forwards like Derek Savage, David Warde, Michael Martin, and Mickey Costello, they have the potential to hurt most defences. Likewise guys like Brian Roache and Donal O’Neill - who are both top quality corner backs - and David Finnegan, John Martin, and Brion Gilmore are not easy to get by.

It was not all bad news for Connacht rugby at the weekend with the u-19 club side overcoming Munster by 16 -10 on Saturday in Cork.
In an open and running game, both sides attempted to play attractive rugby, but in a typical start of season encounter, errors were prevalent from both.
