•Renmore AFC Soccer Club is running a Race Night in the Huntsman Inn College Road on Saturday March 9 to raise funds for the running of the soccer club. All are invited to attend, including anyone not directly involved in the club who would like to participate. The night will consist of a full race card of 10 races shown on large screen TVs with full tote facilities available. There will be an 'auction race' where punters can buy a horse with a chance for a major prize. There will also be lots of spot prizes. • Galway’s Kevin McGlade claimed gold on the final day of competition at the Dave McCullagh Memorial Gala in Limerick at the weekend, winning the 50m freestyle final in 24.30. He then went on to win silver in the 50m breaststroke final, while another Galway swimmer, Dairne Ryan, also took silver in the women’s 50m freestyle in 27.57. Galway’s good run continued in the 100m butterfly final with David O’Sullivan (57.31) claiming gold.

After last Sunday's win over Kilkenny, Galway selector Tom Helebert described the new sideline protocols as "unworkable".
Helebert, who sat in the designated area in the stand and regularly moved down to the barrier to communicate with manager Anthony Cunningham and Mattie Kenny during the match, said being open to comment and suggestions from the crowd was far from ideal. "We have an intercom system, but on a noisy day, you can't hear it. That happened in Croke Park, that's not going to change," Helebert said.

The Galway senior footballers set off on Saturday morning for the long journey to Drogheda to play Louth in their rescheduled National Football League round 2 tie (2.30pm).
The first game was called off due to a water-logged pitch at the Gaelic Grounds in Drogheda and the Galway bus had made it to Maynooth by the time word filtered through that the game was postponed.
