Even with the knowledge that Joe had been seriously ill over the past while, it was still difficult to comprehend that such a gregarious, energetic and vibrant man had passed away at such a young age.

Senior club football championship kicks off this weekend

After a few weekends of exciting club championship hurling action, the football clubs swing into competitive championship fare this Saturday and Sunday with both the seniors and intermediates kicking off.

There are a myriad of football fixtures down for decision over the weekend. However two double headers on Saturday in Tuam Stadium and Pearse Stadium, and a another double header on Sunday in Pearse Stadium, genuinely catch the eye.

Galway have been doing well this season under team manager Ollie Bergin (Kinvara), and his selectors, Joan Poland (Eyrecourt), Francis Larkin (Killimor) and David Forde (Clarinbridge), advancing to the league final after a one-point win over Limerick two weeks ago.
