Walk a mile for a good cause

The inaugural Carnmore Mile will take place on Sunday at the Carnmore hurling pitch near Galway Airport. The event is a unique fundraiser in aid of Carnmore Camogie Club and Galway Hospice which is billed as a family fun event. The club is inviting people of all ages to participate in this one mile run walk.. or crawl. Anybody interested should arrive at Carmore pitch between 12 and 2pm. All participates, who will receive a commemorative Carnmore Mile cap and a certificate of completion, are requested to raise a minimum of €20 to be handed in at registration on the morning of the walk. Further details are available from any member of the Carnmore Camogie Club.

Killanin will fancy their chances

The county minor final which throws in at 1.30 on Sunday brings together old rivals Killanin and Corofin. It should be a humdinger of a game and well worth the effort of getting to the stadium early.

Killanin will look to inspirational full-forward Patrick Sweeney to lead the way. The county minor player notched 2-12 out of 2-15 in the county semi-final against Oughterard, and if he is stopped, it will be interesting to see who else provides the fire-power for the Westboard champions, especially as his twin Cathal Sweeney is doubtful with injury.
