Galway United’s senior women’s team play The Underdogs this weekend in a stirring finale to the Tg4 reality series, but the terms underdogs can no longer be applied to the cup-winning United side after a stirring season which has seen the club reward manager Phil Trill with a new two-year contract.

The October tournament in both events were very exciting with some great play by all players involved.The snooker final was contested by Dan Kineen and Oisin Duggan with Dan comimg out on top by a score of 4 frames to 2.

The 8 ball pool event was contested by Mark Walsh and Kialynn Fitzpatrick with Mark victorious by a score of 6 frames to 4 in a very tight final.

Monivea-Abbey won through to the Connacht Intermediate final after a hard fought 1-08 to 0-10 victory over Mayo champions Kilmeena in Tuam Stadium on Sunday afternoon. This contest was due to bring the curtain down on the famous hayshed which has stood the test of time over the stand in Tuam. Redevelopment on the old stand now has been delayed for a week to allow the intermediate Connacht final to be played.

Monivea-Abbey manager Francis Roche made his feelings about Sunday’s opposition very clear during last week in an interview conducted by Galway Bay FM where he branded Kilmeena a ‘cocky shower’. His entertaining tirade certainly magnified focus on this encounter as the clip from the interview did the rounds on social media.

It will be one of the final games in Tuam Stadium before the redevelopment of the old stand which has been in place for many years and has witnessed so many different competitions and classic games. For the first time since 1998 Corofin and Ballina Stephenites will come to blows in the Connacht Senior Football Championship semi-final next Saturday in Pearse Stadium at 2.30pm.

Ballina had a facile win over Fulham Irish last Saturday in McHale park winning out 3-11 to 0-5. Despite missing Padraig O’Hora, Evan Regan and Dylan Thornton from the beginning and losing Ger Cafferkey in the first half, the Stephenites were never under any pressure and eased to their 15-point win.
