France once again proved a happy hunting ground for Connacht with their victory over Montpellier securing them pole position in pool 2.

Sitting on top with nine points from their two games - at home to Olympus and away to Montpellier - they have given themselves a real boost ahead of the crucial December fixtures with pool favourites Worcester.

St James win West Board minor final replay

St James won their third West Board final in four years last Saturday at Pearse Stadium when they comprehensively defeated Michéal Breathnach’s in the SuperValu minor final by seven points.

The city side led for the whole game and got off to a blistering start to lead by three points after only five minutes.

•Maigh Cuilinn and An Spidéal won the spoils in the finals of the Bearna-Na Forbachas annual u-10 hurling tournament in Na Forbacha on Sunday morning. This was Maigh Cuilinn’s second time to win the cup in its 16-year history and An Spideal’s first competition win. Bearna-Na Forbacha’s u-13 hurling team collected the City League Cup thanks to a three-point victory over Salthill.

Tickets too expensive

A large number of disgruntled and annoyed Galway GAA people mentioned one thing to me last Sunday and all this week. Some even took the time to email me and phone me to voice their displeasure about the €20 entry cost.And there was also much disquiet about the fact that the Luach for the Clár Oifigiúil was a saucy €5.

As one dedicated and most decent GAA woman who attended the game as a neutral pointed out to me early on Monday morning at work, it had cost €50 for herself, her husband, and their Leaving Cert daughter to get in the gate, a tenner for two programmes, and €2 to park in the Tuam mart.
