Galwegians suffered a severe case of déjà vu against Bruff RFC, losing 32-30 in the dying moments after being 25-0 up before half-time. The loss is a massive blow that almost certainly ends their automatic promotion push.
The game ended in dramatic fashion as Bruff looked to have blown it with a penalty miss from Paul Collins in the 79th minute. However, he redeemed himself with a late winner that struck the post before going over.

Willie Mullins was crowned leading trainer at the 2023 Cheltenham festival. It was his tenth time to take the award. Willie has trained 94 winners at the festival to date, and looks very likely to bring his total to over a century of winners next week. With 65 winners in the last decade, the Mullins domination shows no sign of abating, and it will be the shock of the season if he is not crowned leading trainer at next week’s festival. The most important game of the Basketball Ireland Superleague season for Maigh Cuilinn beckons this Saturday, March 2. They will head south to play Killorglin, who also face a relegation threat.
The somewhat arbitrary division of teams into a Northern and Southern Conference has left Maigh Cuilinn (Southern Conference) facing the possibility of being relegated. The bottom team from each conference is relegated each season, and Maigh Cuilinn may go down despite finishing several places above teams in the Northern Conference who would remain in the Superleague next season.
