Train for final

Iarnród Éireann will run a special train for the All Ireland Club Championship final, St James v Lisnaskea Emmetts in Croke Park on Saturday February 12. The train returns to Galway after the match, departing Dublin Heuston Station at 22.05hrs (10.05pm). This train arrives in Galway at 00.15hrs. Supporters may travel to Dublin on 11.05hrs, 13.05hrs and 15.05hrs regular services. Advance booking is essential and supporters will not be able to board trains unless they are in possession of train ticket.

Valentine’s run in Maree

Maree is preparing for an action-packed Valentine’s weekend with two runs taking place on Sunday February 13 in aid of the Maree Community Development Association. The main event is an 8km run along a scenic route along the coastline which gets underway at 1pm. The run is AAI permit pending, and prior on-line registration is available for €15 at www.runlreland.com while registration on the day – which opens at 11am – will cost €20. The second run gets underway at 2pm and will be a 5km family event. There will also be a fancy-dress competition for children. Funds raised will go towards the further provision of sporting facilities in the Maree area.

GTI advance in colleges’ cup

GTI advanced to the semi-finals of the Combined Colleges Cup after overcoming a strong Carlow IT outfit at Terryland Park this week.

Despite conceding an early goal from Carlow’s Nick Cosgrave, GTI ran out 3-1 winners. Goals by recent Galway United signing and GTI captain Enda Curran, his strike partner Mark Dowling, and a second-half goal from midfielder David Cullen were enough to see them through to the next round.

What a difference a year makes. The Galway jersey has always carried a deep and meaningful importance for Tony Og Regan and not being involved at inter county level in 2009 brought pain.
