Saoirse McGrath headlined a successful meet for Galway swimmers at the Leinster age-group and open championships in the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin at the weekend.
McGrath swept the u-16 category, winning titles in the 100 breaststroke, 100 freestyle and 200 individual medley, while also setting a new u-17 Connacht record in the 100 breaststroke.

Killanin look like a senior team in trouble. They are pointless after three games in the league and look like hot candidates to be demoted from 1B. While they scored five goals against Carraroe in their first round defeat, they conceded 1-17.
They are a young side and, in Patrick Sweeney, Stephen Kavanagh, Niall Walsh and Cathal Sweeney, they have some players with potential. Damien Carter and Paul Maloney also caught the eye in that defeat. However they lack a few experienced men around the pitch to guide them through troubled water.

In the middle of Galway United's wretched eight-game losing streak, manager Sean Connor believed the Tribesmen's season would be defined by three games with Drogheda United, the first of which is scheduled for Terryland Park this evening (Thursday).
Since Galway drew with the Boynesiders back on April 8 they have suffered a string of heavy losses, ranging from creditable performances against Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians to downright disasters away to Bray Wanderers and UCD. Those are the types of teams Galway crave to beat in this campaign and that is why tonight's tussle carries huge importance. Galway must take something from the encounter to stop the worrying sequence of results. A safe and solid display is necessary.
