Medtronic win their first Connacht crown

Medtronic have been crowned Connacht champions for the first time with an emphatic 11-point victory over the Mayo Garda in the Connacht junior final in Corofin on Monday night.

Medtronic, with their greater teamwork, were the better side on the night. Two first-half goals from Mike Lundy set them on the road to victory as the Garda fullback line were given a torrid time from the rampant Medtronic forwards.

A feast of Superleague basketball awaits Galway this weekend when, for the only time this season, Moycullen play back-to-back home games on Saturday and Sunday.

First up in the Kingfisher Gym on Saturday at 4pm will be Belfast Star who will be hoping to exact revenge for the Moycullen’s dramatic overtime victory up north earlier this year. Former Irish senior men’s head coach, Danny Fulton, will bring his charges to Galway with renewed hope after improved performances in recent games.

Connacht’s younsters not fazed by visit of Euro giants Toulouse

European rugby giants Toulouse arrive in Galway tomorrow in preparation for Connacht’s biggest competitive fixture at the Galway Sportsground - their pool six Heineken Cup second round clash on Saturday (6pm).

The four-times European champions, nicknamed the “Red and Blacks” travel to the west for what will be an historic occasion. Some 9,000 supporters will pack the Sportsground for the first time in its history for what is Connacht’s 100th European match.
