Highly-rated, the 26-years-old Dubliner came to Connacht at the start of last season, but due to injuries made only five appearances. Having remained on the sidelines this season, he has decided to retire on medical advice.

Galway county senior hurling champions St Thomas take on Munster and Clare champions Ballyhea on Saturday at Semple stadium in Thurles at 5pm looking for a tilt at the All Ireland club crown.

Ballyhea defeated Glen Rovers (Cork) in their provincial final before Christmas, winning by 1-21 to 2-10, with Clare’s 2013 Hurler of the Year, Tony Kelly in tremendous form.
