Golds galore for Galway Masters

Fifty of Galway’s top athletes returned from Sunday's National Masters Indoors Championships in Athlone with a huge medal haul.
Top of the medal table was Mary Barrett of Loughrea AC who won four golds at Over 60 level. She claimed gold in both jumps, firstly the high jump with a clearance of 1.15n. before setting a championship best performance of 3.21m to win the long jump. She then went on to win both the shot putt and weight for distance throws.

Buoyed by an encouraging weekend, Galway United return to SSE Airtricity League first division action at Eamonn Deacy Park tomorrow when hosting Bray Wanderers (7.45pm).
Alan Murphy’s rapidly improving outfit cruised to a convincing four-goal win away to Wexford FC at Ferrycarrig Park on Friday before coming from behind to defeat Athlone Town after extra-time in the EA Sports Cup on Monday.

Martin Mulkerrins has progressed to the quarter finals of the O’Neills Senior Singles Championship following a routine 21-5 21-13 victory over Kerry’s Dominick Lynch.
The Moycullen man enjoyed a fast start as he sought to bounce back from his tie break defeat to Robbie McCarthy at the Nationals. He eased to the first game before the experienced Lynch fought back in the second, but Mulkerrins was able to pull way and seal a deserved victory.
