Management and set up: Kevin O’Brien is Corofin’s manager, but he will be the first to credit everyone involved in this set-up - coaches, strength and conditioning coach, dietician, stats team, and many more. Corofin are a most professional club outfit and it shows on the pitch, while off the pitch chairman Michael Ryder is credited with organsing the necessary funds, helped by club treasurer John Raftery and and secretary Jimmy McHugh.
Never-say-die attitude: On many occasions over the last three years Corofin have more than risen to the occasion, but there have been a few times when they have just scraped through. Look back to the All-Ireland semi-final of 2018 and the dreadful game against Moorefield where the entire country was baffled by the referee’s decision to send off Martin Farragher. The game was slow and scrappy, but it took a last-minute goal to advance. The drawn games in the 2017 Connacht semi-final and final were won in extra time, and of course, there were the last two county finals where they succeeded in forcing replays, thanks to scores with the last kick of the game from Michael Lundy (2018) and Gary Sice (2019). With huge mental strength, these players believe in themselves, their management and their process.

Thu, Jan 02, 2020
Two big Super League games rounded off the decade in Galway basketball this weekend, as Maree and Moycullen all finished 2019 with a bang on Saturday evening.
Down in Cork, it took overtime to separate Coughlan C&S Neptune and Maree, with Maree picking up the win in the end, 92 - 99 to deliver Neptune their second overtime loss in as many games. The game was close throughout with neither team able to hold a comfortable lead as they matched each other score for score. Maree narrowly led 40 - 45 at the half, thanks to well-balanced scoring from Oriol Balsells Plaza, Kenneth Hansberry and Paul Freeman. The battle continued in the second half though, with Lehmon Colbert's scoring and inside presence proving instrumental for the hosts in the fourth quarter. Cian Heaphy also caused havoc for the Maree defence down the stretch and was on hand to level the game at the death at 81 points apiece and send it to overtime. It remained neck-and-neck in overtime but in the end, Balsells Plaza and Darin Johnson had the magic touch for the visitors in the dying moments of the game to win out 92-99 and make it four straight wins for Maree going into the New Year.
