Galway man faces sentencing for sexual assault of minors

A 37-year-old Galway man has admitted sexually assaulting a young boy for more than two years at a house on the west of the city and will now face a sentencing hearing in early December.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Galway Circuit Criminal Court last Tuesday where he was arraigned and pleaded guilty to the charge of sexually assaulting a boy between January 1, 2005, and June 1, 2007 at an address in the city, contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape) Act.

Casual trader fined for counterfeit clothing

An experienced casual trader who bought counterfeit clothing from the back of a van and tried to flog them at a market in Claregalway was fined €400 at Galway District Court on Monday.

Oliver Lambe (49) with an address at Ruan, Ennis, Co Clare, appeared before Judge Mary Fahy and pleaded guilty to two counts of unauthorised use of a trademark at Claregalway Corporate Park, on December 13, 2009.

New book on Corrib Gas controversy to be launched in Galway

Once Upon A Time In The West, a new book on the Corrib Gas controversy by The Irish Times journalist Lorna Siggins, will be launched this week.

The Galway launch will take place in Dubray Books, Shop Street, this Saturday at 2pm. Ms Siggins will speak at the launch and sign copies of the book, which is published by Transworld Ireland. The book also features an introduction by Fintan O’Toole.
