Cathal Ó Conchúir, Sinn Fein's candidate for Galway City West, has this week highlighted the lack of public transport in certain sections of Galway.

“Despite the fact that Galway City Council pays much lip service to the use of public transport, some bus services have been reduced in recent years,” said Ó Conchúir. “The people of SlÍ Gheal and other out lying estates on the Western Distributor Road, for example, have had their bus services reduced in recent years.”

Irish students raise awareness of third world crisis

Five Galway primary schools have been selected as regional finalists in the Our Irish Aid Awards 2014. Corandulla National School, St James’ National School Newcastle, St Annin’s National School Roscahill, Scoil Bhriocain Rosmuc, and Northampton National School Kinvara have been chosen from hundreds of national entries, with their projects being showcased at regional finals taking place in Sligo, Dublin, Limerick and Cork.

The Our World Irish Awards were established to increase primary pupils’ understanding of global development issues, like the work of Irish Aid in combating world hunger and promoting universal primary education.

Connemara Adventure challenge for Croi

Some 500 competitors are expected to take part in the Connemara Adventure Challenge at Killary Harbour, Leenane, on Saturday.

This 32.5km sprint adventure race takes place along a route which offers spectacular views of the Maamturks, Twelve Bens, Killary Harbour and the Mweelrea Mountains. Competitors run, climb hills, cycle and kayak to complete the challenge and then gather for a party at Killary Adventure Centre.
