Welcome to Galway City Culture Night 2015 — Friday September 18

Thu, Sep 10, 2015

As Galway prepares its bid for the glittering prize of European Capital of Culture 2020 Galway Culture Night showcases just a fraction of the year in culture in our beloved city and county. Friday September 18th brings a cornucopia of cultural treasures as our arts, heritage and community venues throw open their doors, joining Ireland’s national culture party. Hundreds of Galway’s finest artists and creative citizens will showcase their work for free in endlessly imaginative ways, joyfully presenting a super showcase of work made by Galway for Galway and the world. Galway was recently awarded UNESCO City of Film status and has joined the international Creative Cities network; this Culture Night programme shows our city and county at their creative best.

In 2020 Ireland and Croatia will jointly be home to the European Capital of Culture as one city from each country will be chosen to symbolise all that is best, most exciting and most challenging and most thought-provoking in their cultural repertoire. Galway is seeking to become the Irish capital and we look forward to bringing our unique vision, potential achievement to this great stage. This year’s Culture Night features many of Galway’s most able culture warriors, from the legendary Druid Theatre, celebrating 40 years of excellence to An Áit Eile, exciting newcomers of whom great things are expected. Familiar Galway institutions like An Taibhdhearc, Galway Arts Centre and the Town Hall Theatre present work alongside new favourites the Giddy Biddies, 091 Labs and the National Computer Museum at INSIGHT and communities throughout the city are well represented too. In the County, too, from Inishbofin to Portumna, An Ceathrú Rua, Belclare and Oranmore.  it’s all out there to see, hear, participate in and enjoy, in the museums, hospitals, theatres, gardens, arts and parish centres, colleges, libraries, streets, parks and laneways, bars and clubs in the cultured and cultivated communities of Galway.
