A request for Housing Minister Jan O’Sullivan to meet with a delegation over what has been described as a “crisis” in the housing sector of Galway city is still expected to go ahead despite additional funding of between €100,000 and €150,000 being confirmed yesterday for the disabled persons grants.

BMW Regional Assembly grant aids Galway’s bus and cycle corridor

An initial grant of €560,000 by the Border, Midland and Western (BMW) Regional Assembly under the European Regional Development Fund grant scheme for the region’s designated gateways and hub towns has been paid to Galway City Council this week. The money will go towards the recently constructed bus and cycle corridor on the west side of the city.

Council refutes claims of raw sewage discharging from Mutton Island

Suggestions that raw sewage from Mutton Island treatment plant is being discharged into Galway Bay has been strenously denied by Galway City Council.

Director of Services for Transport and Infrastructure, Recreation and Amenity, Ciarán Hayes told a special meeting of the Galway City Council last Monday evening that sewage is not being allowed to be discharged in the bay. He was responding to a queries by Cllr Catherine Connolly (Ind) in relation to tenders to update the facility and to reports of vents discharging raw sewage.

A dog adoption day will take place at Trusty Pet Pals dog daycare centre in Briarhill Business Park on Saturday April 20 from 12 noon to 4pm. The adoption day, organised by local dog charity MADRA, situated in Connemara, invites parties interested in adopting a dog, to discuss with the MADRA team and to meet some of the dogs and pups that are currently looking for their new homes. Councillor slams South Park master plan delay

Delays in the preparation and implementation of a master plan for South Park has been slammed by Independent city councillor Catherine Connolly.

The comment was made at a special meeting of the Galway City Council last Monday where a two year progress report on the Galway City Development Plan 2011-2017 was presented to members. It stated: “The remediation of South Park as part of the master plan is ongoing. Funding to progress a flood risk assessment was sought for 2012 but not received. A further application for funding will be made to the Department of Environment, Community and Local Governement in 2013.”
