A launch photocall of Hospice Sunflower Days took place for Galway Hospice in Kilglass National School, Ahascragh on Monday which featured sisters, Sofia and Shauna Cahill, who have a special connection to the hospice as their Dad, John, sadly passed away there in 2020. Monday was also a significant date for the girls as it marked their Dad’s birthday.

New draft bus network to offer good connection between Knocknacarra and Salthill, says Connolly

FF Cllr John Connolly has said that the New Draft Bus Network for the City will provide a number of routes that will link the wider Knocknacarra area with Salthill, something that is lacking from the current bus network.

“The new draft network recently published by the NTA is proposing a number of new routes where the terminus is within the Western Suburbs. Five of the routes will start and finish at the Gateway Retail Park on the Western Distributor Rd, while a further 3 routes will pass through the Gateway. This location is to become a central hub for transport and connectivity in the draft plan,” he said, adding that one of the few routes starting in the Western Suburbs that will not traverse through the Gateway is the new proposed route 7.

With the passing of Mick Berry, fondly known as Berso, the city lost a true authentic Galwegian. Originally from Galway’s Middle Street, Mick was man with principles of toughness and loyalty carried with a unique humour.

He carried those qualities with pride and distinction in a Corinthians jersey. As a 19-year-old, he won his first junior cup playing at fullback. He subsequently spent some years in London where he was the regular inside centre for Ealing R F C.

Stewart Construction, Salthill, Galway has won the prestigious ‘Project of the Year’ award at the Irish Construction Excellence Awards (ICE Awards) held at a Gala Event in the Convention Centre Dublin (CCD) recently.

The iconic landmark Central Plaza project (former Central Bank Headquarters) on Dame St., Dublin was undertaken by Stewart Construction on a Construction Management basis and achieved LEED Gold, environmental certification on completion. The original Central Bank building was designed by architect Sam Stephenson and construction was completed in 1978.

An art competition open to all school children in Galway was recently launched by BirdWatch Ireland and Galway County Council which tasked the children to create artwork of their favourite local wildlife. The results are a visual feast of a wide variety of stunning wildlife that inhabit our countryside and seas as well as a fascinating insight into the birds and mammals that resonate most with children. Some of the popular choices, such as Barn Owl are expected favourites, but there are lots of surprises in there too.
