The Children’s Remembrance Day Committee at University Hospital Galway is inviting parents and their families who have experienced the death of a child before birth, shortly after birth, or at a later stage, to remember their loved ones at a special Mass of Remembrance.
It will take place on Sunday June 9 at the Holy Family Church, Mervue at 2.30pm. The theme of this year’s Mass is “Remembering” and the guest speaker will be Caroline Flaherty.

Tension will be high at tomorrow’s (Friday’s) inaugural meeting of Galway City Council after a weekend of drama which saw a grouping of Independents, Greens, and Labour combine to thwart plans by Fianna Fail and Fine Gael to take control of the council.
With five Fianna Fail councillors and three Fine Gael councillors elected in last week’s City Council elections, it was expected that this grouping together with a handful of others would be sufficient to seize control of the 18-seat council for the next five years.

Seán Kyne, Government Chief Whip, Aire don Ghaeilge, don Ghaeltacht agus do na hOileáin has confirmed that 864 Special Needs Assistants will be supporting pupils in schools across Galway for the coming school year. The total reflects an increased allocation of 36 extra Special Needs Assistants for Galway.
From September, Galway will receive an extra 36 Special Needs Assistants which brings to over 864 the number of SNAs helping pupils in schools across Galway City and County.
