John Murphy, a consultant for BBC, TG4, TV3 and RTÉ, who has worked with Bob Monkhouse, Cilla Black, Frank Skinner, and Gay Byrne, will be giving a workshop in the Galway Film Centre.
The workshops will be held on Saturday April 25 and Sunday 26 and will be aimed at those who want to write for TV in its different formats. Participants will explore the origin and mechanics of stories, industry needs, how to pitch ideas, focus their writing, and to make their stories more screen compatible.

John McDonagh (second left) claimed the biggest catch of the day to win the Cathal Noone Memorial Cup in the annual trout fishing competition on Lough Corrib on Saturday. A total of 13 fish were presented for the weigh-in at Faherty's Bar in Oughterard, with McDonagh’s trout weighing 15.03lbs. Sean Bourke came second with a 14.14lbs fish, while Jamie Lydon came third with two fish weighing 12.30 lbs and 3.24 lbs. Gerry Dixon came fourth with two trout weighing 7.95 and 6.77 lbs, while fifth was Lee Hurney with a 7.31lb trout . Also pictured are Mike Noone, son of the late Cathal Noone who presented the trophy, runner-up Sean Burke, and anglers Kieran O’Toole and Gerry Dixon.

A foundation set up in the name of Manuela Riedo is to be launched next week and will endeavor to help victims of rape and sexual assault.
The body of the 17-year-old Swiss teenager was found in an area of wasteland close to the Lough Atalia area of Galway city on October 8, 2007, just three days after she had arrived for an English language course. In March of this year, Gerald Barry (29) from Rahoon was sentenced to life in prison for her murder.
