Gardaí are appealing to motorists to exercise caution on the roads during the Bank Holiday weekend as the Garda prepares to embark on a road safety drive over the holiday.
Garda checkpoints will be in operation over the weekend and gardaí have called on motorists to adapt their driving behaviour to the driving conditions and to ensure they do not endanger themselves or others on the road.

Fianna Fáil Galway West TD Frank Fahey is threatening to “name and shame” the insurance companies who he is accusing of adopting a “penny pinching approach” and of “making inadequate responses” to flood victims.

Gardaí have appealed for information following two brutal assaults in the city in the past week.
A young man sustained serious facial injuries in the first assault, which occurred in Eyre Square in the early hours of Thursday March 25. The man was attacked by another man on the street between Hibernian House and Kennedy’s Bar. His assailant is described as in his early twenties with dark hair. He was wearing a blue hoodie at the time of the assault.
