Cameron calls on council to support new community employment schemes

City Hall has a “golden opportunity” to create employment and see work carried out that will benefit communities across the city if it supports plans for new community employment schemes.

A proposal is currently before the Galway City Council to introduce two such schemes in the west and the east of the city in conjunction with the council’s Parks Section.

The NUI, Galway Students’ Union is urging students to apply for maintenance grants “as soon as possible”.

New measures were introduced this year to alleviate the problems with delays and bureaucracy, including an online application process, and the advance payment of grants to awarding authorities. Despite this, the Students’ Union is urging all students to submit their applications immediately.
