Latvian poetry event at Inishbofin

THE INISHBOFIN Library will hold a poetry reading event this Sunday at 7.30pm and the public is asked to get involved.

Those who go to the library can read (or simply sit and listen to) a Latvian poem or paragraph which has been translated into English. The translated poems will be available in the community centre in advance.

Unpaid levies is money “robbed from communities and house buyers” and the Galway City Council must be “relentless” in pursuing those developers who still have not paid up.

This is the view of Labour councillor Derek Nolan who was reacting to figures released by City Hall this week regarding the money still owed to the local authority by developers.

SIPTU ‘very worried’ about job losses at Merlin Park and UHG if Merlin closure goes ahead

Burglaries in County Galway jump by a fifth this year

Burglaries in County Galway in the first six months of 2010 are up 21 per cent on the same period in 2009 according to new figures discussed at the County Galway Joint Policing Committee (JPC) meeting held in the Council Chambers on Monday.

The figures were contained in a crime report submitted to the County Galway Joint Policing committee (JPC) by Chief Superintendent Donal O Cualain.
