A Ballybane man with an appalling history of road traffic offences had a five month sentence reactivated and was jailed for a further eight months after being caught driving dangerously while drunk in the middle of a crowd during Galway Rally weekend as well as attempting to hot-wire a car.

In an effort to improve criminal activity across the county, a proposal has been made for the Galway County Council to establish a number of working groups to address key crime areas.
“Litter is bordering on a county scandal,” according to Eugene Cummins, director of services at Galway County Council, who suggested that the groups be formed to tackle spiralling problems in the county.

The Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI) based at the local university has signed collaborative agreements with both Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Fourth Medical Military University Hospital in Xi’an as part of the recent Trade and Investment Mission to Shanghai and Beijing by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Minister Richard Bruton TD. Funded by Science Foundation Ireland, REMEDI is Ireland’s leading research institute in the area of regenerative medicine and stem cell research.
