The acquisition of land for the school finally cleared the way for the project to advance. The purchase of the site was the main stumbling block in delaying the new building.

The GSPCA is appealing for information following the discovery of a badly injured pup in Portumna at the weekend. The dog, which is about 12 weeks old, had been subjected to a botched attempt to dock its tail and was found wandering the streets in pain and distress.

A Galway-based civil engineering and building firm has purchased Weston Executive Airport near Lucan in west Dublin for more than €3.5 million.
Savills handled the sale to Brian Conneely Co Associates for Kieran Wallace of KPMG, who was appointed by Nama as a receiver to a number of distressed property assets held by the Citywest businessman Jim Mansfield, including the airfield.
