Autocross event for Gort this Sunday

Galway Motor Club has announced that it is organising round seven of the D&B Doors National Autocross Championship on Sunday July 10. Autocross, car racing on a grass surface, is one of the oldest forms of motorsport in Ireland. The Galway club has revived its annual event and it will take place near Gort. Practice runs on the grass track course will commence at 11.30am with timed runs commencing after midday.

Young Fine Gael (YFG) will hold one of its major events of the year in The Hotel Meyrick, Galway, this weekend, from Friday July 8 to Sunday, July 10.

Newly elected Mayor of Galway city, Cllr Hildegarde Naughten, will open the summer school. She will be joined by Fine Gael TDs Sean Kyne and Brian Walsh, and Senator Fidelma Healy Eames. The summer school brings together 200 delegates from YFG branches throughout the country for a weekend of political and social events.

Sight-seeing turns tragedy for tourists killed in Kinvara crash

A sight-seeing trip turned into tragedy for two tourists after their motorcycle was in collision with a car on sharp country road bend.

Gardai are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash which claimed the lives of two French tourists on Tuesday. A 77-year-old man and his pillion passenger, a 66-year-old woman, were killed when the motorcycle they were travelling on collided with a car on the N67 between Kinvara and Ballyvaughan at Roo Demesne.
