The board of Galway Airport has this week announced the formation of a strategic project group charged with developing a strategic plan for the airport in light of the Government’s recent announcement that PSO and Operational Expenditure Support is to be withdrawn.
The strategic project group, drawn from the company's board, management and Galway Chamber of Commerce, supported by external consultants Venture Advancement Ltd, will deliver a draft report to the board on August 30 2011.

Young Galwegians who collect empty aluminium cans stand to make some pocket money from the Department of the Environment through its Cash for Cans initiative.
Monday saw the launch of the Galway City Council’s Cash for Cans initiative. Members of the public who collect the empty aluminium cans can return them to the Sandy Road Facility between 2pm and 4pm Monday to Thursday; 2pm and 3pm on Fridays; and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.

The annual Mountbellew Vintage Rally will be held this year on July 22, 23 and 24. Many new additions will make spectacular viewing for an estimated attendance of over 10,000 people.
Pride of place this year must surely be the appearance of the heaviest steam engine in either Ireland or the UK. Aptly named the Grand Scenic Dolphin, this monster of a machine will be leaving its home in Aberdeen, Scotland next week, will cross the sea by ferry and will be transported to Dublin Port and on to Mountbellew on a special lorry for viewing in the Square on Saturday night and on the grounds on Sunday.
