RTÉ archives announced an ambitious collaboration with the newly announced SFI “Big Data” Research Centre called INSIGHT and the Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI), which will be carried out in DERI (NUI Galway) at INSIGHT, to develop an innovative semantic content discovery platform to open up the treasures of the RTÉ Archives.

The refusal to introduce water charges next year is not only a “very positive development” but an “acknowledgement of the concerns that people around the country have”.
This is the view of Labour Galway city councillor Niall McNeilus, who said bringing in water charges in 2014 when people are already facing the property tax and “major increases in taxation this year and next” was too much.

Eight years ago in May 2005, I was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. At the time I was diagnosed, I wasn't to know having undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and beating the cancer, that I would be left with very severe and long-term side effects from the treatment. The last eight years have been an ongoing battle with many hospitalizations and suffering. I didn't think the discovery of my illness would someday lead me from a small town in Ireland to Winston-Salem, North Carolina. But here I am.

In February, Fianna Fáil councillor Peter Keane brought forward a motion seeking to have councillors’ pay docked and allowances suspended if they persisted in causing disruption or refused to apologise for their behaviour when asked to do so by the Mayor.
