The traffic situation in Parkmore Business Park is "not only an inconvenience, it is dangerous". With people "caught in their cars for over an hour", demands are being made for the gardaí to be brought in to deal with traffic management at peak hours.

A nephew of one of Galway’s most famous hurling heroes has lamented the state of the Blackrock diving tower in Salthill. Séan Duggan was one of the most high profile users of the facility, swimming there for more than 50 years. Indeed in hail, rain, or snow the GAA legend still undertook his daily swim, up to six months before he passed away at the age of 91. His nephew Peter L Duggan says it is a travesty that the famous landmark has deteriorated to such a state.

Last week the Galway Advertiser featured an article after a local woman contacted the paper with a story about a frightening incident which occurred the previous Monday. The woman was driving home alone at 11pm on the main road between Moycullen and Spiddal (known as The Mountain Road) when she noticed a car to her rear being driven erratically. She detailed how a car came flying up behind her and began tailgating her and flashing lights.

City crime drops in first quarter, but assaults and drug possessions increase

Preliminary figures for Galway city show reported crimes dropped by more than a third in the first quarter of this year, though there were increases in a number of categories, most notably drug offences, public order, assault causing harm, and incidents of domestic violence.

The latest crime figures for the city were outlined this week by Chief Superintendent Tom Curley at a meeting of the city's joint policing committee. Overall, the three months from January to March saw a total of 1,245 crimes reported in the city, a decrease of 35 per cent on the same period last year.
