In recognition of winning the Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh 2015, Joyce’s Supermarket in Knocknacarra has launched an initiative that will see all customers entering their store on Fridays greeted with the phrase Dia Dhuit.
“We have really focused on offering a seirbhís i nGaeilge to our customers and with 12 Irish speakers on our team, conversations as Ghaeilge can be heard throughout the day,” said Aisling Joyce.

The Children’s Remembrance Day Committee, University Hospital Galway is inviting parents and their families who have experienced the death of a child before birth, shortly after birth or at a later stage to remember their loved ones in a special Mass of Remembrance, which will take place at the Church of Mary Immaculate Queen in Barna on Sunday June 7.

Speaking at this week's local authority meeting, council CEO Brendan McGrath outlined the cost of renting library space in the city was a substantial €395,000 per annum. NUI Galway, in collaboration with 19 software industry partners, is offering a limited number of free places on its Higher Diploma in Software Design and Development Programme – Industry Stream. This programme was recently awarded the accolade of being Postgraduate Programme of the Year in Information Technology by Grad Ireland.
90 per cent of graduates from the Higher Diploma in Software Design and Development have secured immediate employment in software development roles. Many of the graduates are employed with some of Ireland’s leading software companies. NUI Galway has designed this one-year conversion programme in conjunction with 19 leading IT employers which enable graduates to re-skill for employment in the software development area.

A 40 per cent cut in funding for the arts has meant that a local committee in Galway is having to go it alone to restore WB Yeats’ former home of Thoor Ballylee. The Yeats Thoor Ballylee Development committee will hold a fundraising evening at the tower this Sunday, May 31.
The auction will take place on the rooftop of the tower with local auctioneer, Colm Farrell MIPAV, acting as William Butler Yeats. Funds raised will be used to re-open the tower to the public 13 days later, with the greatest Yeats party in Ireland to commemorate the 150th birthday of William Butler Yeats. The fundraising event will get national and international recognition with press present during the event.
