Killanin fundraiser to raise money for bereavement charity

Local heroes take to the ring to ‘Knock Out Meningitis’

Twenty-two of Galway’s most determined and hard-working first time boxers are being put through their paces with Corrib KickBoxing Club to take to the ring at 8pm on Friday June 3 at the Clayton Hotel, for an exciting white collar boxing event, raising vital funds for the national meningitis support and awareness charity ACT for Meningitis.

Now in their sixth week of an intense and extremely tough eight-week training programme, these everyday heroes have thrown themselves into the challenge, some in memory of a loved one lost to meningitis, some whom have witnessed first-hand the devastation this disease can have on individuals, families and whole communities, but each one of them, to raise the funds necessary to help ACT.

UHG authorities consider providing new hospital in Merlin Park within 15 years

Dep Catherine Connolly hit out this week at both senior hospital management at University Hospital Galway over the years for failing to commit in a “planned and timely manner” to such a project and the various governments for “refusing to even contemplate” the issue.
