Thu, Mar 23, 2017
Dear Editor,
It was heartening to attend the funeral mass of former Bishop of Galway Eamonn Casey among 1,600 other mourners. I never met Bishop Casey myself. My memories in real life are of him walking up and down the main aisle of Galway Cathedral during the Solemn Novenas which still attract large numbers of worshippers every February. The large crowd at his funeral mass is testament to the affection that ordinary Galwegians had for this man despite the fact that he had resigned from his position as Bishop nearly 25 years ago, in circumstances which are well documented, and hadn’t been in active ministry in this country since that time.

World-class healthcare – the children of Ireland deserve no less
Thu, Mar 23, 2017
As clinicians responsible for delivering secondary and tertiary paediatric and neonatal healthcare, our number one priority is providing the best possible care to our patients.
We fully support the new children’s hospital on a campus shared with St James’s Hospital and we are working towards the delivery of healthcare services on this single academic medical campus which will provide paediatric, adult and maternity services. The delivery of these services side by side, on a research-intensive campus, will benefit all of our patients, but in particular will drive improved clinical outcomes for the sickest children, adolescents, new-borns and high risk mothers. This ’tri-location’ model of healthcare delivery is recognised as best practice internationally and, as clinicians, we are greatly excited about the bringing together of our services on one campus.
